Here is some news out of the National Hurricane Conference going on this week down in Orlando Florida. The official word from the National Hurricane Center is, do not tape your windows of your home or business during a threat from a hurricane or strong tropical storm. Their position now is that leads to a false sense of security and may actually increase the danger.

For years we've all seen folks taping up windows right before a storm, but the research now says that act will not help in keeping the glass from breaking. In fact if its taped up, large shards of glass may in fact be blown inward causing potential injury. The NHC recommends using storm shutters or "hurricane impact resistant" windows.

'Go Tapeless" is their new motto to help tear down the myth of taping. A recent online survey found 7 out of 10 homeowners thought windows should be taped prior to a hurricane, only time and a repetitive message will change that thought process.

Hurricane season will begin on June 1st. The first named storm will be Alberto. Predictions for the season will be released soon, but remember it only takes one land-falling storm to make the year appear 'active"! Peace
