As I pour over weather models, maps and observations, my first thought everyday: "Is this pattern going to produce severe weather or at least weather that is disruptive to the viewer?" If the outcome is NO, then it moves to my second criteria: "Could I play golf?"
Yes golf is my passion, I have several passions, (family and church being the others) but golf is something I think about everyday, several times a day. It influences my opinion on the weather for the day. Today is a perfect example. As I work through the 5day forecast, I see temperatures conducive for "teeing it up". However we will also have waves of rain and possible t-storms into next week. I find myself hoping for the rain and storms to happen at night or at the very least stop for a four hour window, enough to get 18 in.
Now I have played golf in all the elements, extreme desert heat of Arizona, drenching tropical rains of Florida, the bitter chill of a NW wind in the North Georgia mountains. I have hit balls out of snow, into snow, even skipped a bladed five iron off a frozen pond. I know that the Lord invented Gore-Tex for a reason, so you could play in wind and rain. I love the feeling of pealing layers of clothes as you play in the spring/fall as the sun warms the day.
There is one weather element I won't play in..ever..lightning. I see lightning, I'm off the course, I hear thunder, I'm off the course. I love the game, but respect that element and its not worth it.
So in the coming days our current weather pattern will be repeated. Cold air will be locked in to our north, warm air will hang over the southeast. The trade off will be chances for rain and yes a few t-storms. Just know that if I'm not playing this weekend, I'll be thinking about it. Peace
