The night of April 27th 2011 an EF-3 (winds 136 to 165 mph) tornado roared across parts of Lamar County. Several homes were hit and two people died on Grove St.

Also on Grove St., Charlie Strom and his family hid in the family closet. Their home was nearly leveled, but they were not hurt. Weeks later Charlie was having a tough time any time the sky turned dark. His aunt contacted me and told me his story.

So in the summer Charlie and his family came to Severe Weather Center 2 for a tour and it gave me a time to alleviate his fear of severe weather/tornadoes.

Charlie produced a video about his experience and it won a school wide competition. Click here to watch it. I think you will agree he’s a cool little kid. Enjoy!
