Tropical Storm Hermine heads toward Florida, Georgia

Tropical storm warning and watches have been issued for parts of Florida and southern Georgia as Tropical Storm Hermine churns in the Gulf of Mexico.

It's expected to make landfall early Friday morning as a Category 1 hurricane in the northwest panhandle of Florida.

Primary threats are for heavy rainfall.

Isolated parts of northern Florida could see up to 10 inches of rainfall, causing extensive inland flooding. %

From the Apalachicola area to the Hernando Beach area, storm surge of up to 5 feet is possible if peak surge hits during high tide.

Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for Tarpon Springs to the Walton/Bay County line.

GEORGIA IMPACTS

A tropical storm watch has been issued for parts of south and southeast Georgia for 30 to 40 mph wind, gusts of up to 60 mph and 4 to 8 inches of rainfall.

Severe Weather Team 2 says that North Georgia and metro Atlanta will not be impacted by Hermine.
