Flood Watch Issued For Metro Atlanta

A flood watch was issued for most of metro Atlanta Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon, according to Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton.

A flood warning was issued for Big Creek near Alpharetta until late Thursday night. Minor flooding is expected along the creek.

There could also be flooding along Chattahoochee River Road near Roswell at highway 9. Riverside Road is also expected to flood.

Rain began falling in metro Atlanta Wednesday morning and more is expected over the next few days.

"We could see 2-3 inches of rain by the time all of this is out of here," said Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton.

The rain will be heavy at times through Wednesday morning, with another wave coming through around lunch time, according to Minton.

"The next wave comes in about 7 o'clock tonight and we'll see some heavy rain again," said Minton. "The heaviest will come in tonight around 11:30 through 5 a.m."

The rain will continue on Thursday, but Minton said it will be scattered showers rather than the heavy downpours we'll see on Wednesday.

The high temperatures Wednesday will hit the mid-to-upper 50s.
