Are You Ready For Georgia Tornadoes?

Posted: 1:07 pm EDT April 8, 2009Updated: 8:26 pm EDT April 15, 2009

Channel 2 and Severe Weather Team 2 helped Georgians answer the question, are you ready for Georgia tornadoes?

An Action News primetime special delivered life-saving information, local survivor stories, and an inside look at the power of Storm Tracker 2 HD radar.

“We’re in the active season for tornadoes right now,” said Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns. “Studies show the vast majority of Georgians are not prepared for twisters that can be destructive and deadly,” Burns continued.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologists David Chandley and Karen Minton revealed what Georgians can do right now to prepare and survive when tornadoes strike.

“Many Georgians have not made preparations to handle natural disasters,” said meteorologist Karen Minton. “When you see the damage and hear survival stories from local families, it reinforces how dangerous tornadoes can be,” Chandley followed.

Burns and meteorologist Brad Nitz then took viewers behind the scenes for an inside look at Storm Tracker 2 HD.

“As a meteorologist, I couldn’t ask for a better equipped, state-of-the-art storm tracking tool,” Nitz said. “We’ll show you how we track tornadoes as they develop and how we can pinpoint when they’ll be headed for your neighborhood,” Burns concluded.

It’s important that Georgia families have a plan and are prepared when tornado watches and warnings are issued. Are you ready for Georgia tornadoes?
