SCORCHER: Temperatures Soar In Atlanta

Monday, June 9, 2008 – updated: 12:47 pm EDT June 9, 2008

Temperatures climbed into the high 90s Monday across Atlanta and the rest of north Georgia.

Some spots could see the mercury hit 100.

"If you're going to be outside be sure to drink plenty of water," warned WSB-TV Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton.

The scorching temperatures are being caused by a ridge of high pressure over the area.

"Lots of warm air and moisture are being funneled up from the Gulf," according to Minton.

There is a 20 percent chance of isolated showers.

The area should see a slight cool down Tuesday when a wedge of cooler air moves in. Highs Tuesday and Wednesday will drop back into the high 80s and down to the mid 80s by Thursday.
