Papal Apartment Sealed Off After Benedict's Departure

As Pope Benedict on Thursday stepped down, his former home in the Vatican was sealed off while the Catholic Church awaits the election of the next pope. Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone conducted the ceremonial sealing off immediately after Benedict's resignation took effect at 8 p.m. (1900gmt) on Thursday. The doors leading to the papal study and bedroom were locked and sealed. A red ribbon with a Vatican seal was placed on the front doors.
