Kerry Is Confirmed as New Secretary of State

John Kerry was officially sworn in as the new U.S. Secretary of State on Friday (February 1) by Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan. Kerry's wife Teresa held the Bible while Kerry swore the oath. He was also joined by his youngest daughter Vanessa and his brother Cam. The private ceremony took place in the Foreign Relations Committee hearing room at the Capitol. Kerry was confirmed for the post by the Senate on Tuesday (January 29) by an overwhelming majority.
