Clean Water Protest Turns Violent

Clashes broke out on Monday (March 18) as protesters in northeastern Colombia demonstrated against a lack of clean water in their community. The city of Yopal has not had clean drinking water for months since a local sewage treatment plant stopped functioning after it was damaged months ago. Residents took to the streets and the protests dissolved into clashes. Businesses locked down their doors and shuttered their windows as police shot tear gas and protesters threw rocks.
