Baltimore Airport Exhibit Honors Thurgood Marshall

Wednesday, June 7, 2006 – updated: 12:16 pm EDT June 7, 2006

Officials unveiled a new display to pay tribute to the late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall on Tuesday.

State officials joined members of the Marshall family for the ceremony at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The exhibit features a variety of photos, artifacts and the many contributions the Baltimore native made on the Maryland state and national levels.

Marshall's wife, Cecilia, said her husband would want to share this honor with others.

"He would also want us to remember the countless numbers of unsung heroes: those who are gone, those who are here and those who were there for him when he needed them -- along with those who are carrying on with the legacy of Thurgood Marshall," she said.

The General Assembly officially renamed the airport to include Marshall's name last October, after Gov. Bob Ehrlich signed a law sponsored by Baltimore County Delegate Emmett Burns Jr.
