Queen Musical To Close; Shows Could Shuffle

Popular Show Didn't Become Mega-Hit

Updated: 10:54 am EST November 1, 2005

"We Will Rock You," the musical featuring the songs of rock supergroup Queen, will close at Paris Las Vegas at the end of November after more than 500 performances.

Officials with both the hotel and the show are trying to put a positive spin on it, suggesting that it was always viewed as a limited engagement and that the show is going on to bigger and better productions in South Africa and Switzerland, but just about everyone agrees that "Rock You," while popular, was never quite the out-of-the-park hit it was hoped it would be after the success of "Mamma Mia!" down the street at Mandalay Bay.

There's no word yet on what will replace the show at Paris Las Vegas, but this might be the opening salvo in a string of rumored shakeups in the showrooms at Harrah's properties in Las Vegas.

The scuttlebutt around town puts shows like "Clint Holmes, "The Scintas, "Gladys Knight and even stalwart "Jubilee on the chopping block.

Occupants of other theaters at Harrah's, Rio, Flamingo, Bally's, and Paris could also be put on notice.

Just about the only people who appear safe in the whole thing are Celine Dion and Elton John at Caesars Palace.
