Williams Sisters Reach Wimbledon Doubles Final

Friday, July 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - The mighty Williams sisters -- Venus and Serena -- will play for the women's doubles championship Saturday at Wimbledon. The American sisters, of course, will also decide the singles victor in the ladies' final on Saturday.

On Friday, the 11th-seeded sisters drilled an unseeded tandem of Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy and Aussie Casey Dellacqua 6-3, 6-3 in a semifinal on Court 1 at the All England Club.

The other semi saw a 16th-seeded pairing of American Lisa Raymond and Aussie Samantha Stosur upset the top-seeded duo of Zimbabwe's Cara Black and American Liezel Huber 6-3, 6-3. Black and Huber were the defending champions here and also captured Wimbledon back in 2005.

The Williams sisters are a perfect 6-0 in their career major doubles finals, including Wimbledon championships in 2000 and 2002.

Saturday's winning doubles team will pocket $450,000.
