1. I have a converter box and new antenna, I’ve scanned the channels and only get channel 2, what do I do? I used to get all the local stations...
ANSWER: Put your tuner on channel 2.1. Slowly turn your antenna a degree or two at a time and watch to see if channel 2.1 comes in. If you get it, try changing the channel to some other digital channels. Channel 5.1 is very strong and the antenna can pick up even when it is not pointed in the ideal position.
2. Will I need to constantly adjust my antenna to get channels? I only get Channel 2 and then have to move the antenna to get other stations I’ve gone to the antenna web sites and purchased the antenna for my zip code and I can’t get any channels, what do I do?
ANSWER: No, once you get the antenna pointed to the ideal angle for the Atlanta stations you will not need to change its position again. If you need to pick up the Atlanta stations, you will either have to move the antenna or get a second antenna that you point to those stations.
3. I live across the street from the Fairmont hotel and the have lots of high powered antennas on their roof, is that my problem?
ANSWER: That is a possibility.
4. How do I keep my VHS with my TV?
ANSWER: Follow the directions that came with your converter box. Also, go to DTV2009.gov for more ideas and instructions.
5. Where does the converter go?
ANSWER: Connect your antenna to it. Then connect it to your TV or VCR or DVD player. Please follow the directions that came with your converter.
6. How do I change channels?
ANSWER: Use the remote control that came with your new converter box.
7. I listen to TV audio on (this) radio, will I be able to continue using it?
ANSWER: No. This receiver is likely using the analog transmissions that will no longer be available after the DTV conversion.
8. What is digital?
ANSWER: Digital is just a different approach to making TV signals transmit to TV’s at your home. It happens to deliver a better picture. It does not get a snowy picture, but if the signal is too week you will not get any pictures at all.
9. Will the sound be better?
ANSWER: The sound will not be dramatically better unless you have a home theater system that takes advantage of the extra audio features digital offers. The sound will be as good as analog definitely on TV’s.
10. Why is the captioning so small on my new TV?
ANSWER: Many sets allow the captioning size to be enlarged. Look for a setting to increase the size of captions in your new converter box.
11. Will the newspaper list 2.1, 5.2, etc. so we know what is on these other (digital) channels?
ANSWER: Most likely. Note that most stations will keep the same basic channel number for digital tuning that the stations have had for analog channels. Channel 2 will be found at “channel 2” on the digital converter. The TV will say that this is “channel 2.1”.
12. Do I have to wait until you turn on your digital signal before I can hook up a converter?
ANSWER: No. Please try to use it as much as you can now. The more you can work with the new converter to get it to receive all of your favorite channels, the easier the shutdown of the analog channels will be for you.
13. Why is this happening? - I like my TV now!
ANSWER: The U.S. government decided a few years ago to stop using channels 52 and higher for television. The government is auctioning these channels private companies for new services that people want. The government is using some of these channels to make a better communications system for emergencies so fire departments and police departments can communicate better.
