WSB-TV Channel 2 Announces Morning Anchor Changes

ATLANTA -- Marian Pittman, news director for Channel 2 Action News, announced that long-time award-winning anchor/reporter, Pam Martin, will shift her schedule from the early morning news so that she can contribute more to the early evening shows.Martin will continue anchoring Channel 2 Action News at Noon and will add daily reports for the 5-7 p.m. newscasts as well as special investigative reporting. Long-time weekend anchor, Carol Sbarge, assumes the morning anchor duties alongside Fred Blankenship.“I’m pleased to be returning to the job I created for myself. It allows the best of all possible journalist worlds,” said Martin.“When needed, Pam responded to the morning shift like the veteran she is,” said Pittman. “She rearranged her life for the grueling morning news schedule and took ownership of her role. She anchored the show as Atlanta commuters shifted their news viewing to earlier and earlier in the morning.""Pam leaves the show in a dominant competitive position. We appreciate her leadership, dedication and great stewardship of this important newscast," Pittman added."I’m very pleased to announce that Carol Sbarge will join Fred Blankenship on the anchor desk,” continued Pittman. “Carol is just the veteran insider for the job. She has anchored Channel 2 Action News on Saturday and Sunday mornings for the past 11 years and filled in for Pam on the weekday morning shift. With 15 years at WSB-TV, she knows the area.”Sbarge previously worked as a reporter for six years at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C. She earned a bachelor's degree in business-economics from SUNY Oneonta, and she holds a master's degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University. In 1991, she was named North Carolina Journalist of the Year and won three Emmy Awards. She is past president of the Druid Hills Youth Sports Association and she's also involved in the local chapter of PANCAN.Carol is married and has two children, Ashley, born in 1987, and Christopher, born in 1993. She graduated from Parkway Central High School where she was National Honor Society president, class vice president and associate editor of the high school newspaper. She graduated from Southern Methodist University with honors in three years, earning a degree in journalism.
