This editorial first aired 1-14:

It's being called one of the most important American archives in our history.

Tomorrow, for the first time ever, a collection of handwritten papers by Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, goes on public display at The Atlanta History Center.

But tonight at 7pm on Channel 2, Anchors John Pruitt, Monica Pearson and Jovita Moore host an exclusive hour-long primetime special focusing on this new and revealing chapter in the life of Dr. King.

They talk with family members and close friends about their personal moments with Dr. King.

They also have the story "behind the scenes" of how these personal documents were entrusted to Dr. King's alma mater, Morehouse College.

The collection features 7-thousand papers which span more than 20 years of history.

It includes a draft of his famous I Have a Dream speech, final revisions to Letter from Birmingham Jail, The Drum Major Instinct, and his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize acceptance address.

It also has Dr. King's 1946 college exam on the Bible his earliest surviving theological writing.

This collection is a real life window into a critical turning point in American history, our history.

WE encourage you to go to The Atlanta History Center to see it.

As Mayor Shirley Franklin put it, this is a special way to Celebrate the Heritage of the Civil Rights Movement in Atlanta.

Join us in Celebrating The Heritage with The King Papers tonight at 7PM on Channel 2.

It's Community Coverage You Can Count On.

I'm Bill Hoffman.
