Glenn Burns and WSB-TV Channel 2 are marking an anniversary this month.

The respected meteorologist has been with the station for 25 years.

Glenn joined WSB-TV Channel 2 in January of 1982.

His first assignment was forecasting the weather on Channel 2 Action News at Noon.

Jocelyn Dorsey was the anchor on the show.

"Glenn would spend a lot of time trying to make me laugh when he was off camera and I was on," she remembers.

"People don't do that anymore; it could get them in trouble, but Glenn was always trying to crack me up on the air."

During that time, in addition to his weather duties, Glenn also got a chance to share his love of fishing with viewers. You may remember his "Georgia Fisherman Reports."

Glenn was later promoted to the evening newscasts and eventually became chief meteorologist for the WSB-TV Channel 2 Severe Weather Team.

"Twenty-five years in a market , especially a market this size and the importance that weather has is certainly a testament to his consistency and his knowledge of the weather that goes on around here, you know we cover such a big area," said colleague and fellow meteorologist David Chandley.

Brad Nitz, also an air meteorologist at WSB-TV Channel 2 remembers Glenn welcoming him warmly, "Back when I joined the weather team, Glenn made me feel very welcome here, and way back then he had been here for 24 years at that point but 25 years that’s an impressive run, an impressive milestone."

Glenn began his broadcasting career at age 14, working part-time for WSVN-TV in Miami. After receiving a journalism degree with a minor in astronomy from the University of Florida, Glenn interned at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, working with Dr. Neil Frank and Dr. Joseph Pellissier. Glenn then went to work as Chief Meteorologist for WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Glenn received numerous awards from the Red Cross, Civil Defense and Coast Guard for his weather coverage. He also worked with Apollo 15 astronaut Col. Alfred M. Worden at Cape Canaveral. Glenn worked at the Vehicle Assembly Building, helping to create and install lightening protection.

After working three years in Florida, he began his post-graduate work in astrophysics at the University of Minnesota, while working as chief meteorologist for KARE-TV in Minneapolis.

During that time, Glenn won many awards, including the Minnesota Teacher's Award for a program that involved students, teachers and KARE-TV in a weather education series. That program eventually evolved into Weather School.

Glenn lives with wife, Susan, daughter Kimberly and son Christopher in Marietta. Besides forecasting the weather, Glenn hosts the Georgia State Lottery and the nationally televised Mega Millions drawing.

While at WSB-TV, Glenn has won many awards, including Best of Atlanta, Best of Cobb, Best of Gwinnett, Associated Press Weathercaster of the Year, and has been nominated for numerous Emmy Awards.

Glenn and his wife Susan work for many area charities, including the March of Dimes, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Cobb Family Resources and the Starlight Foundation.

Glenn's hobbies include fishing, hiking and looking at the planets and stars with his telescope.
