Source: Race between UGA and Alabama for the nation's No. 2 OLB has gotten tight

Will he or won't he sign with UGA? There are several prospects who UGA fans have lowered and raised their hopes about over the last 24 hours.

Brian Burns. Derrick Brown. Michail Carter. David Marshall. EJ Price.

It now seems within reason to add the name of 5-star linebacker Lyndell “Mack” Wilson to that group. The 6-foot-3, 236-pounder from Montgomery, Ala., is down to UGA and Alabama.

Wilson is expected to stay in-state and sign with Alabama, and that’s still the proper projection, but things have gotten much tighter than expected in regard to his decision.

DawgNation now has gotten word from a pair of individuals close to the situation that UGA has made this a much closer race. It was even estimated his choice might even be as close as a coin flip at this time.

UGA got into the game very late with Wilson. The Bulldogs only became a viable contender when Kirby Smart was named the head coach. Those two individuals have a relationship that goes back to his freshman year at Carver-Montgomery High School.

Wilson’s decision has not been made at this time and it is expected to take place later this evening. If that happens, then he is also expected to inform each coaching staff sometime afterward.

It would be quite the haul for either program. Wilson is rated as the nation’s No. 2 outside linebacker prospect and No. 15 overall recruit for this year’s class.

The Crystal Ball Feature from 247sports.com still projects Wilson to Alabama with 93 percent of all analyst predictions.
