Norcross beats Colquitt County 28-14 in scrimmage

NORCROSS, Ga. — Norcross defeated Colquitt County 28-14 in a scrimmage on Saturday at Norcross.

Colquitt County QB Daniel Mobley threw two touchdown passes for a 14-0 lead. Norcross QB A.J. Bush threw two TD passes in Norcross’ comeback.

All-state WR Miles Autry of Norcross did not play and wore a knee brace on the sideline, but Norcross coach Keith Maloof said his all-state player will be ready for the season opener on Aug. 24. Autry had knee surgery shortly after Norcross’ victory in the Class AAAAAA championship game in 2012.

Savannah Christian offensive lineman Donnie Foster, listed on our preseason all-state team in Class A, has transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. His place was taken on the all-state team by Jeff Fox of Aquinas. … Our article on Friday listed some of the Class A all-state players who had committed to Division I schools. Add to that list Athens Academy PK Michael Santamaria (Virginia Tech) and Warren County DL Torrez Wentz (Old Dominion).

More national rankings

Three Georgia teams made the Athlon Sports preseason top 25, released last weekend. Norcross is No. 12, Sandy Creek is No. 14, and Gainesville is No. 24.

Mount Pisgah adds game

Mount Pisgah Christian has scheduled a road game against Wilson of Florence, Ala., on Sept. 27 to replace a game lost when Southwest Atlanta Christian canceled its season. Mount Pisgah coach Mike Forester, who coached at Briarwood Christian in Birmingham for 18 seasons, used his Alabama connections to complete Mount Pisgah’s schedule. Four teams that lost games are still looking: Mount Zion, Christian Heritage, Gordon Lee and North Cobb Christian.
