Georgia Tech football player arrested for simple battery

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech defensive back Jalen Johnson was arrested Saturday for simple battery by campus police and was taken to Fulton County jail.

Johnson, 20, a redshirt sophomore from Oneonta, Ala., played in the team’s win over Duke earlier in the day at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

He was arrested around 1 a.m. in front of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house, according to school crime logs.

According to the Georgia code, a person is guilty of simple battery if he or she “intentionally makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature” with another person or “intentionally causes physical harm to another.”

Johnson has played in all eight of the team’s games this season, mostly in a special teams role. %

Georgia Tech released a statement saying, "Jalen Johnson is a member of the Georgia Tech football team. The Georgia Institute of Technology does not discuss ongoing investigations."

Johnson posted a $5,000 bond and was released from jail.
