Shelley Re-Signs With Columbus

Posted: 5:36 pm EDT June 15, 2006

(Sports Network) - The Columbus Blue Jackets brought back a fan favorite on Thursday after they re-signed forward Jody Shelley to a two- year contract.

Shelley is not known for his offense as he posted just three goals and seven assists for 10 points -- all career highs -- in 80 games last season. Relied on for more of his toughness, the 30-year-old led the Blue Jackets in penalty minutes (163) for the fourth consecutive season.

"I love playing in Columbus and I'm proud to be part of one of the best organizations in the NHL," said Shelley, who has spent all four of his professional seasons with the Blue Jackets.

Shelley has totaled 10 goals and 17 assists with 856 penalty minutes in 277 career contests. He is the club's all-time leader in penalty minutes while also being fourth on the team's all-time games played list.

"Jody is a fierce competitor who has worked tirelessly to improve his game each year he's been with our club," said Blue Jackets president and general manager Doug MacLean. "He possesses tremendous character and has not only become a real leader in our dressing room, but a great ambassador in our community as well."
