Braves Deal Leaves Blank On The Bench

Posted: 6:09 am EDT April 24, 2006Updated: 11:55 am EDT April 24, 2006

It appears Time-Warner is set to close the deal on selling the Atlanta Braves.

The new owners would be Colorado-based Liberty Media Corp., according to sources.

The deal between Liberty and Time-Warner is so complex the Braves are just a small part of the transaction.

Insiders say the deal includes stock swaps that will give Time-Warner a big chunk of its own stock that Liberty has been holding. In return Time-Warner picks up half the stock in Court TV, giving Time-Warner full control of that network with the stock it already owns.

Liberty Medial already owns the QVC home shopping network, Sprint Nextel and Motorola. The company also is a stockholder in both the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Rockies.

Time-Warner says the company continues to negotiate with Home Depot founder Arthur Black and if the deal with Liberty falls through Blank would be back in the running for the team.
