Miami, FL -- Reggie Ball scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 16-yard run midway through the third quarter and Georgia Tech's defense outshined Miami's top-ranked stop unit, as the Yellow Jackets shocked the third-ranked Hurricanes, 14-10, in the Orange Bowl. Calvin Johnson caught six passes for 89 yards while Tashard Choice rushed for 84 yards and a score on 29 carries, but it was Georgia Tech's defense that paved the way for the school's biggest win in 15 years. The Yellow Jackets (7-3, 5-3 ACC) held Miami to 237 total yards, just 30 of which came on the ground, and 11 first downs to cripple the Hurricanes' BCS hopes. The win was Georgia's Tech first over a top-three team since upsetting No. 1 Virginia during the Jackets' 1990 national championship season, and its first against a top-five foe since a 31-28 decision at fifth-ranked Clemson on October 28, 2000. Miami (8-2, 5-2) assumed control of the Atlantic Coast Conference's Coastal Division with an authoritative 27-7 triumph at then-No. 3 Virginia Tech two weeks ago. Now the Hurricanes have to hope for a Hokies loss next Saturday against North Carolina and must beat Virginia in their regular-season finale to earn a spot in the conference championship game. Kyle Wright completed just 14-of-31 throws for 207 yards with a touchdown, and threw a costly interception in Yellow Jackets territory with 1:38 left to play. He was also sacked seven times as the Hurricanes' eight-game win streak came to a halt. Ball also struggled against Miami's top-notch secondary, throwing for 159 yards on 11-of-30 passing. Sinorice Moss had six receptions for 63 yards, including a 19-yard catch late in the first half for Miami's lone touchdown. Ryan Moore finished with 77 receiving yards on three grabs in the setback. Trailing 10-7, the Yellow Jackets reclaimed the lead with a seven-play, 61- yard drive aided by an excessive celebration penalty on 'Canes linebacker Rocky McIntosh which negated a 3rd-and-4 situation. Choice ripped off a 13- yard run to the Miami 27 on the next play, and Ball hit Johnson for a nine- yard gain on 3rd-and-8 to the 16-yard line to keep the series alive. Ball then scrambled and outran the defense into the end zone to put Georgia Tech up 14-10 with 7:17 remaining in the third quarter. The Jackets had a chance to extend the margin early in the fourth quarter, but Travis Bell missed a 44-yard field goal attempt wide left. Miami got a break with under 10 minutes to go when GT's Pat Clark fumbled a punt, which the 'Canes recovered at the Jackets' 47-yard line. A 21-yard connection from Wright to Buck Ortega moved the ball inside the 25, but the drive was stopped when Georgia Tech's KaMichael Hall stuffed Charlie Jones for a loss on 4th-and-1. The Hurricanes were pinned back to their own 11-yard line with under three minutes left following Ben Arndt's 78-yard punt. However, Wright began to catch fire. He completed passes of 13 and 25 yards to Quadtrine Hill and Moore, respectively, then later hooked up with Moss for a 24-yard gain to the Yellow Jackets' 27 with 1:46 to go. However, Dennis Davis made a leaping interception of Wright's deep pass and Georgia Tech ran out the clock. Ball and the Yellow Jackets opened up sharp on their initial possession. The junior quarterback fired an 18-yard strike to Clark on 3rd-and-17 before Choice scampered for 15-yards to the UM 24. Miami appeared to have Georgia Tech stopped when Kenny Phillips picked off Ball in the end zone, but he was called for pass interference. Choice then powered across the goal line from two yards away to give the visitors an early 7-0 advantage. The Hurricanes failed to mount an offensive threat through the first quarter, but got on the board with 8:29 left in the second on Jon Peattie's 43-yard field goal. The kick was set up by Darnell Jenkins' 18-yard punt return to the Jackets' 24. Miami later broke through with a seven-play, 90-yard possession capped by Wright's 19-yard touchdown pass to Moss with 57 seconds remaining in the half. The Hurricanes moved deep into enemy territory when Moore hauled in a 37-yard toss before being brought down inside the Georgia Tech 25.Game Notes:The game was originally scheduled for October 22 but was pushed back because of Hurricane Wilma...Georgia Tech played without leading rusher P.J.
