Chuck Dowdle's Column

And Another Thing

With holiday shopping season about to kick-off, here are a few of the things I would like to find under the tree this year.

The chance to see both Tom Glavine and John Smoltz walk off the mound one more time in a Braves uniform as the winning pitcher.

A packed house at every UGA gymnastics meet to give a giant thank you to Coach Suzanne Yoculan for 26 years of building the Georgia Gym Dawgs into the premiere collegiate program in the country. Yoculan is retiring with 9 National Championships, or maybe 10.

A playoff appearance for Coach Mike Smith's Falcons who have over-achieved beyond belief.

An NCAA common sense committee that will seriously consider a way to stage a football playoff system for division one that will settle the national championship on the field.

A 40 win season for the Atlanta Hawks.

Wooden bats for ALL high school and college baseball games.

The settlement of the on-going fight among members of the Atlanta Spirit group that own the Hawks, Thrashers, and Philips Arena.

An apology from all sportswriters and sportscasters who thought that Paul Johnson would not bring an exciting brand of football to Georgia Tech.

A realistic trade request from the San Diego Padres that would put pitcher Jake Peavy in a Braves uniform next spring.

One more season of Mathew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, and Jeff Owens at UGA.

Another trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the Thrashers. Is twice in a decade being greedy?

High School basketball standout Derrick Favors staying in the state of Georgia.

A quarterback for the Falcons who can lead this team for years to come. Oh, wait. You already got me that!

Thanks.
