Falcons Player Facing Drug Charge To Start Sunday

An NFL source close to Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux told Channel 2 sports anchor Zach Klein that all indications point towards Babineaux starting Sunday against the undefeated New Orleans Saints.

Babineaux, who was arrested Thursday night and charged with possession of marijuana, practiced Friday and went through the team's walk through Saturday morning.

Babineaux was driving a 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT on Interstate 85 north near Hamilton Mill Road about 10:45 p.m. when he was stopped by a Gwinnett County police officer.

"During the stop an odor of marijuana could be smelled by the officer coming from the interior of the vehicle," said Corporal David Schiralli with the Gwinnett County Police Department. "Gwinnett County Police K9 responded to the location and a positive alert to the odor of narcotics was given by the dog."

In a statement released to Channel 2 Friday evening, Babineaux said "I'm not guilty of these charges."
