Washington, DC -- (Sports Network) - Luis Rodriguez homered and drove in three runs as San Diego topped Washington, 6-2, in the opener of a three-game series between the teams with the worst marks in the National League.Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chase Headley each had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Padres, who snapped a five-game skid and won for just the fourth time this month (4-17). Mat Latos (1-1), making his second major league appearance, threw into the sixth inning to get the victory. The 21-year-old right-hander, an 11th-round draft pick by the Padres in 2006, allowed five hits, including solo homers to Cristian Guzman and Ryan Zimmerman. Latos also walked two and had five strikeouts over his 5 2/3 innings. Garrett Mock (0-4), in his 41st major league outing but just his fifth start, yielded nine hits and five runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings. He also had five strikeouts. The Nationals, who totaled six hits and committed four errors, suffered their eighth loss in 10 games and continued to struggle against the Padres. Washington is 7-28 vs. San Diego dating back to August 2003, having lost 11 consecutive series. Mock faced trouble right from the beginning. Tony Gwynn singled to start the game, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third when Everth Cabrera reached first on Mock's errant throw. Adrian Gonzalez followed with a sacrifice fly to center. Cabrera stole second, and with two outs scored on Headley's double to right. Guzman homered to center in the bottom of the first, but Rodriguez pegged a 1-2 offering over the wall in right-center in the fourth. Washington had runners at the corners in the bottom half of the frame, but Josh Willingham grounded out to end the threat. With the bases full and one out in the sixth, Rodriguez singled in Gonzalez and Kouzmanoff, ending Mock's night on the mound as he was replaced by Jason Bergmann with the Nationals facing a 5-1 deficit. Zimmerman smacked his 16th homer of the season in the sixth, a shot to left, but Kouzmanoff's double plated Gwynn in the seventh. The Nationals loaded the bases with two down in the seventh, but Luke Reversion fanned Guzman. Game Notes San Diego's Triple-A affiliate, Portland, was unable to travel to Salt Lake City Friday due to illness to several of the Beavers players...Gonzalez has appeared in every Padres game dating back to August 15, 2007, a stretch of 303 games that ranks as the longest active streak in Major League Baseball. The Padres all-time record for consecutive games played is held by Steve Garvey, who appeared in 305 straight contests...San Diego won five of its six meetings with the Nats a year ago and has captured eight of nine in the series.
