(Sports Network) - Stephane Yelle scored twice while Manny Fernandez stopped 27 shots as the Boston Bruins broke a 12-game losing streak against Montreal with a 6-1 thrashing of the Canadiens at TD Banknorth Garden. Marco Sturm also lit the lamp twice for the Bruins, winners of five straight and eight of nine. Shawn Thornton and Milan Lucic also tallied once each for Boston, which hadn't beaten their perennial rivals since a 3-1 victory on March 3, 2007. Saku Koivu picked up the lone goal for the Canadiens, who have dropped three of four. Carey Price was shelled for all six goals on 31 shots.

Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Joey MacDonald made 29 saves as the New York Islanders downed the Ottawa Senators, 3-1, in the opener of a home-and-home series at Scotiabank Place. Kyle Okposo, Trent Hunter and Bill Guerin each lit the lamp for the Islanders, who snapped a three-game skid. Filip Kuba scored the lone goal for the Senators, losers in three straight, while Alex Auld was charged with all three goals on 31 shots in the loss. These teams will meet on Saturday at New York.

Final Score: Pittsburgh 5, Philadelphia 4 (SO)

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Rookie defenseman Alex Goligoski scored the lone shootout goal, as the Pittsburgh Penguins continued their home dominance over the Philadelphia Flyers with a 5-4 win. After Dany Sabourin stoned Joffrey Lupul to end the fifth round, Goligoski faked the backhand before switching to the forehand and tucking the disc behind Martin Biron. Scott Hartnell looked to even the shootout, but lost the handle and the game ended in Pittsburgh's favor. Sidney Crosby scored two goals, while Evgeni Malkin added a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who have won five games in a row. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed four goals on 24 shots before he was replaced by Sabourin at the beginning of the third period. Sabourin stopped all 11 shots he faced. Simon Gagne registered a pair of short-handed tallies for Philadelphia, which has lost five straight and 10 of its last 11 trips to Mellon Arena. Biron gave up four goals on 31 shots.

Final Score: Detroit 4, Tampa Bay 3

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Johan Franzen led a balanced scoring attack with a goal and an assist, as the Detroit Red Wings rallied from an early deficit to hold off the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-3. Mikael Samuelsson, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk also had a goal and a helper each for the Red Wings, who have won three of four. Marian Hossa had two helpers in the win, and Chris Osgood made 15 saves to improve to 17-0-0 all-time against the Lightning, the best active record of any netminder against one team. Mark Recchi, Jussi Jokinen and Matt Pettinger all scored for the Lightning, who have lost five of six. Olaf Kolzig allowed four goals on 39 shots in the loss.

Final Score: Minnesota 4, Phoenix 0

St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - Marek Zidlicky scored his first two goals of the season, and Niklas Backstrom made 24 saves for his second shutout of the year as Minnesota topped Phoenix, 4-0, at Xcel Energy Center. Andrew Brunette and Eric Belanger also scored for the Wild, who have won three of five overall. Marc-Andre Bergeron tallied three assists in the victory. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 28 shots for the Coyotes, whose three-game win streak came to an end.

Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Dallas 2

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Kyle Quincey's wrister early in the second proved to be the game-winner, and the Los Angeles Kings swept the home-and- home series with the Dallas Stars with a 3-2 victory Thursday night. The Kings defeated the Stars in Los Angeles on Tuesday by a 3-2 margin in a shootout. Michal Handzus and Jarret Stoll scored the other goals for the Kings, who have won four straight. Alexander Frolov posted two helpers, and Erik Ersberg made 24 saves to earn the victory. Brad Richards and Mike Ribiero tallied for the Stars, who have lost five of six. Richards also notched an assist, and Marty Turco stopped 26-of-29 shots in taking the loss.

Final Score: Toronto 5, Edmonton 2

Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Tomas Kaberle had a goal and two assists as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat up the Edmonton Oilers, 5-2, at Rexall Place. Matt Stajan added three assists while Vesa Toskala made 23 saves for the Maple Leafs, who have won two of their last three. Sam Gagner and Ethan Moreau each lit the lamp for the Oilers, who had won their past two games. Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers was charged with five goals on 29 shots in the loss.

Final Score: San Jose 6, Calgary 1

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Joe Pavelski registered two goals and an assist, as the San Jose Sharks trumped the Calgary Flames, 6-1, at HP Pavilion. Milan Michalek added two goals, while Rob Blake, Christian Ehrhoff and Dan Boyle each collected three assists for San Jose, which snapped a modest two-game losing streak. Brian Boucher made 23 saves in his fourth consecutive start in place of Evgeni Nabokov, who remains sidelined with a lower body injury. Miikka Kiprusoff had a miserable night for the Flames, who have dropped five of their last seven games. The Finnish netminder let in four goals on 20 shots in a forgettable first period for Calgary, which was thoroughly dominated. Curtis McElhinney replaced Kiprusoff at the beginning of the second period and allowed two goals on 26 shots the rest of the way.
