Terefe Maregu Wins Peachtree Road Race

Terefe Maregu of Ethiopia won the Peacthree Road Race Friday morning; Nataliya Berkut of Ukraine was the first woman to the finish line of the July 4th race.

Maregu, 25, a first time winner of the race, finished in 28:29:31. He wore bib number 1 reflecting his status as the favorite even before the race began. Peter Kamais of Kenya, who was sixth last year, finished second.

Berkut, 33, finished in 32:22.

Kurt Fearnley of Australia won the men's wheelchair division for the second year in a row. Edith Hunkeler of Switzerland was first in the women's division of the wheelchar race. This was her second Peachtree win; she was the top finisher in 2004.

Behind the winners 55,000 citizen runners made their way up Peachtree; trying to get to the finish line and take home the coveted Peachtree Road Race shirt.
