Colorado Rockies (3-3) At Los Angeles Dodgers (4-2), 4:10 P.m.
(Sports Network) - Jason Schmidt pitches in Dodger Stadium for the first time as a member of Los Angeles this afternoon, when the Dodgers host the Colorado Rockies in the opener of a three-game series. Schmidt spent his last five-plus seasons with division rival San Francisco before joining the Dodgers in the offseason. He made his Los Angeles debut on the road last Wednesday against Milwaukee, and allowed one run on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks over five innings to post his first victory as a Dodger. In his career, Schmidt is 4-4 in 15 career outings at Dodger Stadium. The 34-year-old right-hander made four starts against Colorado as a member of the Giants last season, going 1-1 with a 3.42 earned run average. In his career, Schmidt is 13-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 26 games -- 25 starts -- against the Rockies. That includes 151 strikeouts over 161 innings. The Dodgers are 4-2 on the young season and are coming off a three-game sweep of San Francisco. Luis Gonzalez had three hits, including his first two homers in a Dodger uniform, and drove in four runs to lead Los Angeles to a 10-4 victory over the Giants on Sunday. Matt Kemp and Wilson Valdez both had three hits and knocked in two runs for Los Angeles, which logged its eighth straight win at AT&T Park. Ramon Martinez also had two RBI for the Dodgers, while Jeff Kent ended with two hits and scored three times. Randy Wolf (1-1) got his first win in a Dodgers uniform, allowing three hits and a run over six innings, as LA won its fourth straight overall. Colorado fell to 3-3 on Sunday after losing its second straight game to San Diego. That game went extra innings, as Kevin Kouzmanoff drove in the game- winning run in the 10th inning to lift the Padres to a 2-1 win over the Rockies at Petco Park. Aaron Cook was brilliant for the Rockies as he threw nine innings and was charged with just one run on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts. LaTroy Hawkins (0-2) was handed the loss for giving up the run in the 10th inning. Brad Hawpe drove in the lone run for Colorado, which has dropped five of its last six against San Diego. Jeff Francis will try to stop the bleeding for Colorado. Francis earned a no- decision in his first start of the season last Tuesday, giving up just two runs and seven hits over six inning with four strikeouts in what was eventually an extra-inning loss for the Rockies to Arizona. The 26-year-old lefty made one start against the Dodgers in 2006 and gave up one run and six hits with four walks in a no-decision. Francis is 1-1 in five career starts against LA, and his 2.93 ERA against the Dodgers is his second- lowest among opponents with more than two starts. He has also never allowed a home run in 30 2/3 innings against the Dodgers. LA dominated Colorado last season, winning 15 of the 19 games in the series. That includes an 8-2 home mark against the Rockies in 2006. Los Angeles has won three straight and six of seven overall in the series.
