ATLANTA -- On the eve of the holiday on which America honors his memory and celebrates his legacy, Channel 2 Action News presented, “The King Papers.” The special showcased the Atlanta opening of a new and revealing chapter in the life and writings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.Anchors John Pruitt, Monica Pearson and Jovita Moore hosted the exclusive primetime special, a first-look at the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as revealed through his most personal private papers. These documents, never-before-seen by the general public, reveal his personal thoughts and dreams as he grew from a young man, to Morehouse student, to social prophet for racial equality.Channel 2 talked to his family members and his friends to uncover personal moments about Dr. King that, until now, were known only to those closest to him. Included in the collection are drafts and notes from his most famous speeches including “The Nobel Peace Prize” acceptance speech and, perhaps his most famous speech, “I Have a Dream.”The program also included the behind-the-scenes story of how these personal documents were saved by the combined efforts of the Atlanta government and business community.In 1984, WSB-TV presented the drama, “The Boy King”, the story of Dr. King’s childhood. The story told of the racial injustices witnessed by the young King that later shaped the man who devoted his life for non-violent social change. One year later, WSB-TV was awarded the prestigious Peabody Award for its production that has since been seen by hundreds of thousands of students across the country.
