Poll: Jones, Cardwell In Close Fight For Senate Nomination
Winner Will Face Sen. Saxby Chambliss

ATLANTA -- A new poll released Tuesday shows a tight race between DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones and former TV reporter Dale Cardwell for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate.According to a Strategic Vision poll Jones leads with 25 percent. Cardwell is second with 22 percent. Former Lt. Gov. nominee Jim Martin is at 17 percent, Rand Knight has 14 percent and Josh Lanier 6 percent. Sixteen percent of those polled said they were undecided. In a potential Senate match-up between Sen. Saxby Chambliss R-Ga. and Jones, Sen. Chambliss led 57 percent to 27 percent; with 16 percent undecided.In a potential match-up between Sen. Chambliss and Cardwell, Sen. Chambliss led with 58 percent to 29 percent for Cardwell.Cardwell is a former investigative reporter for WSB-TV Channel 2.A potential match-up between Sen. Chambliss and Martin showed 57 percent to 28 percent victory for Sen. Chambliss.In a general election match-up for president, Sen. John McCain R-Az. led Sen. Barack Obama D-Ill. 51 percent to 43 percent with Libertarian Bob Barr at 3 percent and 3 percent undecided.
