Vikings Cut Koren Robinson

Posted: 5:57 pm EDT August 26, 2006

(Sports Network) - The Minnesota Vikings cut eight players on Saturday, with the most notable player being wide receiver Koren Robinson.

A former ninth overall selection by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2001 NFL Draft, Robinson looked like he was on his way to stardom with the Seahawks before off the field problems threatened his career.

Robinson caught 78 passes for 1,240 yards and five touchdowns in 2002 but was suspended in 2004 for substance-abuse issues. In 2005, after a DUI arrest became public, Robinson was released by the Seahawks.

The Vikings took a chance on Robinson and signed him before the 2005 season. The former North Carolina State star developed into a Pro Bowl kick returner and, by the end of the season, was the club's top playmaker.

Robinson caught 22 balls for 347 yards and a touchdown in 14 games (five starts) last season. He also returned 47 kicks for 1,221 yards and a touchdown.

For his career, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound receiver has amassed 235 receptions for 3,514 yards and 13 touchdowns in 71 games (57 starts).

Minnesota had signed Robinson to a three-year contract in March with the expectations that he would be the team's number one receiver in 2006. However, off the field problems continued to haunt the troubled receiver when he was charged with drunk driving and fleeing the police on August 15.

The Vikings also cut receiver Aaron Hosack, offensive linemen Sean Bubin and Mark Wilson, defensive tackle Manase Hopoi, fullback Brandon Jones, linebacker Marcus Lawrence and safety Ahmad Treaudo.
