NFL Preseason Preview - Cleveland (0-0) At Tennessee (0-0)
By Brian Gillespie, NFL Contributing Writer A pair of former AFC Central rivals will begin the
preseason against each other Saturday night, when the Cleveland Browns travel
to Music City to battle the Tennessee Titans at the Coliseum. Tennessee won 10 of its final 11 regular season games in 2002 to garner the
AFC South title and a bye in the postseason. The Titans edged Pittsburgh,
34-31, in overtime in the Divisional Round, but ran into a buzz saw when they
traveled to Oakland for the AFC Championship Game. The Titans' defense
couldn't stop the Raiders and it resulted in a 44-21 defeat. It didn't help
that All-Pro defensive end Jevon Kearse missed most of the season due to a
broken foot. Kearse, who is in the final year of his contract, is finally at
full strength again. Offensive stars QB Steve McNair and RB Eddie George are
healthy as well. Cleveland is coming off a surprising season in which it won five of its last
seven contests to grab an AFC wild card. The Browns finished 9-7 for the year
before falling 36-33 to AFC North rival Pittsburgh in the opening round of the
playoffs. A big reason for the Browns' success in 2002 was backup quarterback
Kelly Holcomb's ability to pick the team up when starter Tim Couch got hurt.
Due to Holcomb's success and his popularity with the fans, head coach Butch
Davis has a quarterback controversy on his hands heading into the preseason.
No matter who starts tonight's game, Couch and Holcomb will get equal time. These teams met one time last season with the Browns winning a thrilling 31-28
decision in overtime at the Coliseum. Sports Network Predicted Outcome: Tennessee 21, Cleveland 17 08/07 11:23:58 ET
