WSB-TV to carry fireworks live from Centennial Olympic Park on July 4

ATLANTA — Channel 2’s “Georgia Salutes America” includes a mix of musical entertainment, a special tribute to the men and women who serve in our armed forces and the most spectacular fireworks show in the South, live from Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, GA.

Jovita Moore, anchor of Channel 2 Action News at 5, 6 and 11 p.m., and Sports Director Zach Klein will host this special event.

The program features a live performance by Grammy Award winner Peabo Bryson and J-Fly and Friends. Channel 2’s Wendy Corona hosts Sugarland’s Kristian Bush’s special tribute in front of the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces.

Peabo Bryson has established a career as one of the premier male vocalists in contemporary music of the last quarter century. Possessing a beautifully rich, almost operatic voice, this two-time Grammy Award-winner has survived and prospered despite the passage of time and changes in popular musical trends.

J-Fly's successes are blessings from his passion for mastering the drums and impacting the lives of young music students as a Humanitarian and Recording Academy member. He has toured and recorded with many  artists such as Cameo, Peabo Bryson, Phil Perry, Jennifer Holliday, Bobby Brown, and New Edition, while also producing a solo project, “Hypnotic” .   Television appearances include the Soul Train Music Awards,  BET’s Sunday’s Best, and the Music Director for the 2012 Heisman Trophy Awards.

The United States Air Force Band of the West is the largest ensemble in the USAF Band of the West with over 40 musicians. Its repertoire consists of music dating from the Renaissance to the present day and ranges from serious symphonic band literature and Sousa marches to Broadway musicals and Top-40 hits. The members of the group are highly-skilled musicians educated in colleges and universities from across the nation. Each member has volunteered to serve their country as Air Force professionals.

Georgia Salutes America" delivers special 4th of July greetings from Georgians serving away from home and will showcase the winner of the Montlick & Associates' "Most Deserving Military Family" contest. The Georgia Lottery will unveil the winners of this year's "4th in 4 words" contest live during the special.

The primetime hour will take viewers all across North Georgia to see how communities are celebrating Independence Day with local parades, concerts, and barbecues.

The evening ends with Centennial Olympic Park's Fireworks Spectacular, Atlanta's best fireworks display synchronized to a special selection of patriotic and popular music.

"Channel 2 has been celebrating the country's independence with Georgia since 1960," said Tim McVay, Vice President and General Manager of Channel 2 WSB-TV. "We're proud to continue this tradition and invite everyone to attend live or watch our telecast on Channel 2 with their families and friends," McVay added.
