WSB-TV Vice President and General Manager Bill Hoffman and Channel 2 Meterologist Karen Minton donated 200 Midland weather radios to The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA), on behalf of the television station, to be used by Ready Georgia as incentives to getting residents prepared.
“When we discovered that 80 percent of Georgia families were not as prepared as they should be, we felt that is was important that WSB-TV help raise the awareness in a major way. Thanks to our partnership with Midland Radio and The Kroger Company, we have a rainy day fund which allowed us to donate the radios”, said Hoffman
The campaign, which runs through April 30, encourages residents to create a profile at the Ready Georgia Web site, ready.ga.gov.
Residents can also purchase state-of the-art, digital alert Midland radios from Kroger stores statewide at a reduced rate of $29.99 from $49.99 during the campaign. .
“NOAA Weather Radios can help save lives and are a critical emergency preparedness tool in every home,” said Charley English, director of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. “Georgia’s NOAA Weather Radio network provides the most saturated coverage of any state in the U.S., making it possible for every community to take advantage of the information broadcasted 24 hours a day.”
With tornado season underway and hurricane season approaching, this radio campaign aims to help Georgians prepare for dangerous weather as well as all hazard situations. The Midland weather radio requires little set up and is easy to use, and having one helps residents stay informed of threats to their area.
