ATLANTA —
North Georgia is now in the winter recharge period of our water supply. February and March is when we stockpile our water resources thanks to heavier rainfall and low evaporation and transpiration rates.
In the last 30 days, Atlanta has received only 53 percent of its average rainfall 76 percent for the past 90 days, but several intense rain events can change all that, according to Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist David Chandley.
Tuesday will be very wet across the Southeast with a forecast of 1 to 2 inches or rain, with higher amounts in some areas, Chandley said. Tuesday's Forecasted Rainfall Amounts There are more opportunities for rainfall next week and beyond in the 8 to 14 day outlook of above average precipitation, according to Chandley. 8-14 Day Precipitation Probability The latest 30 and 90 day outlooks still hold on the drier than average for North Georgia, no doubt the continued influence of a La Nina winter. However, this winter season has not followed the typical La Nina winter of warmer and drier than average.
