ATLANTA —

Following two days of record-high temperatures a line of storms, heavy rain and cooler temperatures moved into north Georgia.

Shortly after 6 p.m. the storms prompted a tornado warning for parts of Troup and Heard counties. The warning expired at 6:45 p.m. with no damage to report. A tornado watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Temperatures will drop heading toward the holiday weekend, but not before a front that could bring some storms to north Georgia, according to Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist David Chandley.

“The severe storm risk is low, but there is the possibility of a few thunderstorms with damaging winds late Tuesday night. Some parts of north Georgia will also see heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, with lesser amounts south and east of the city,” Chandley said. “The main storm window will be through midnight.”

Once the rain passes, temperatures will fall closer to normal with sunshine and clear skies for the rest of the week. Temperatures for Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day will be in the mid-60s.
