Channel 2's Mike Petchenik got a firsthand look at the damage. Officials believe someone caused the damage between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The damage included shattered mirrors, toilets and sinks in bathrooms.

"It’s something someone did to the citizens of Alpharetta, and we take that very seriously," Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said.

In addition to the damage inside bathrooms, police said the vandals had burglarized a concession stand, stole sports drinks, and flipped over bleachers on a sports field. Police also found what they believe to be human waste on the pitcher's mound of a softball field.

“It certainly seems like the act of teenagers or kids who think they’re playing pranks, but really, they’re committing crimes," said Drinkard.

Park-goers to whom Petchenik showed the pictures were outraged by what they saw.

"This is what we pay taxes for and for somebody to come in and destroy it, it’s just beyond me," Patricia Reel said.

Dorothy Kuck, who frequents North Park's community center, told Petchenik she hoped the vandals would be caught and punished.

“I think they should be prosecuted, not just a slap on the hand," she said.
