Teacher sent naked photos to student via Snapchat, police say

A Louisiana teacher was arrested and accused of allegedly sending naked photos of herself on Snapchat to a 13-year-old student, NOLA.com reported.

Viridiana Ramos, 30, of Marrero, was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, according to Lt. Jason Rivarde of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

According to the website of L.W. Ruppel Academy for Advanced Studies in Gretna, Ramos is identified as a band teacher at the school, NOLA.com reported.

The teacher has been suspended without pay pending an investigation, Beth Branley, spokeswoman for the Jefferson Parish Public School System, said Thursday.

The 13-year-old boy told investigators Ramos friended him on Snapchat and the two began communicating in October, Rivarde said. The chats started out with regular conversation, but Ramos soon turned flirtatious, authorities said.

“At some point, she started sending him photographs of her breasts, buttocks and vagina,” Rivarde said.

The Ruppel Academy principal questioned the boy on Nov. 17 and contacted Gretna police, Rivarde said.

At least one other student, a 14-year-old boy, allegedly saw the Snapchat photos, Rivarde said.

Ramos was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. She was released from jail Nov. 21 on a $5,000 bond.

The teacher, who police have identified as Ramos, has worked in the district since 2010 as a band teacher for talented arts students at five schools: Ruppel, Fisher Middle-High School, McDonogh No. 26 Elementary, Terrytown Elementary and Kerner Elementary, Branley said.

However, the investigation involves allegations made by a student at Ruppel, NOLA reported.

“There is no indication that anything happened at any of the other schools,” Branley said. “The investigation is centered on the allegation at Ruppel, but we are conducting an investigation and working with all schools where she taught.”
