The man, reported by CNN as only being identified as a Turkish migrant, stole two watches and foreign currency from a bag on an Emirates flight from Turkey to Hong Kong.

The bag was in the on-board carry-on bin.

The 39-year-old man said he did not notice the items were missing until he arrived in Hong Kong.

He reported the incident to flight officials, who reported it to Hong Kong police.

Authorities investigated when the plane landed.

"Emirates is working closely with the police department and providing information to assist with their investigation," the airline said in a statement to BBC News.

The airline would not give more information as the investigation is ongoing.
