CONYERS, Ga. — A robbery suspect is in custody after leading officers on a chase and getting into a shootout after robbing a credit union.

It happened just before 4 p.m.

Conyers police said Cepeda Broughton, 40, of Atlanta, robbed the Georgia's Own Credit Union on Sigman Road in Conyers. Broughton then got into a chase with police.

During the chase, police said Broughton rammed three cars and then a police officer with his car, before an officer forced the suspect off the road.

Broughton then started shooting at officers as he got out of the car and ran, police said.

Police said they returned fire, but no one sustained any gunshot wounds

Police said they then chased Broughton on foot behind an Auto Zone and into an apartment complex, where he was taken into custody.

Some of the innocent crash victims received minor injuries from their cars being rammed by Broughton, police said.

Broughton is being charged with bank robbery and the use of a weapon in the commission of a crime.

Broughton will have an initial appearance in front of a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Atlanta Thursday.
