'Stuff the Bus' for metro-area students

ATLANTA — WSB-TV collected new book bags and school supplies for homeless and needy children all day Saturday.

Channel 2, WSB-TV, The Family 2 Family Project and The Children's Restoration Network launched the drive during the month of July to help students cope with returning to or entering a new school.

The Stuff the Bus school supply drive was held until 11 p.m. at the station located at 1601 West Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, 30309.

"Our goal is to collect schools supplies for 4,000 students so they spend their time focusing on the classwork," said Tim McVay, vice president and general manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV.

After 16 hours of collection donations, the bus where donations were placed was packed.

Viewers who brought school supplies were entered into a drawing for prizes provided by the Family 2 Family sponsors.

As of this date, the prizes include:
• Four Southwest Airlines tickets
• American Signature Furniture gift cards
• Kroger gift cards

In addition, American Signature Furniture gave 10 percent off discount coupons to every viewer who contributed Saturday.

If you would still like to donate, here's a list of other back-to-school events:
