Stranded Antarctic Group Enroute to Tasmania

Rescue efforts are underway in Antarctica where 52 scientists and tourists have been stranded on a Russian ship trapped in the ice since Christmas Eve. A helicopter from a Chinese icebreaker helped ferry the passengers to an Australian ship that is now enroute to Tasmania- a mere 1500 nautical miles away. The group's journey was meant to commemorate the 100th anniversary of an Antarctic journey led by famed Australian explorer Douglas Mawson.
