Stone Mountain party ends in gunfire, one man dead

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — DeKalb County Police are searching for a suspect in the shooting death of a man at a Stone Mountain apartment complex.

The shooting happened at the Mountain Lake Apartment Homes complex off North Hairston Road.

Resident Michelle Williams told Channel 2's Liz Artz that the victim didn't live at the complex, but that his aunt did and he was there for a party.

Detectives told Artz that some other non-residents were there, too.

"Some uninvited guests showed up, a fight ensued," Lt. Joseph Artime said. "We have one male subject shot in the head."

Police have not released the name of the victim. Williams said her 7-year-old daughter was playing at an adjacent playground when the shooting happened.

"She heard something go, 'Boom, Boom' and didn't know what it was and ran home," Williams said.

Two men were taken into custody while Artz was on the scene. Witnesses said one of the two attacked an officer who tried to question him.

"They were there and being uncooperative at the time," Artime said.

Detectives told Artz the men in custody are being called witnesses.

Artz spoke to the victim's aunt off camera. She said her nephew didn't know the shooter.
