Florida Beats Alabama 31-20 In Georgia Dome

ATLANTA —

Florida beat Alabama 31-20 Saturday in the Georgia Dome to win the SEC championship.

The win by the Gators ended Alabama's perfect season and their hopes for a spot in the national championship game.

Tim Tebow threw three touchdown passes -- including the decisive score with just under three minutes remaining -- to lead the No. 2 Gators to the victory over No. 1 Alabama.

The win should be enough to give Florida (12-1) a spot in the BCS title game for the second time in three years. Alabama (12-1) will apparently have to settle for a spot in the Sugar Bowl.

Showing it could win a close game in a season of routs, Florida (12-1) went to the fourth quarter trailing 20-17.

The Gators regained the lead when Jeff Demps hurdled in from one yard out to put the Gators up 24-20 with under 10 minutes left in the game.

Florida struck again when Tebow hit Riley Cooper for a five yard touchdown, taking a commanding 31-20 lead with under three minutes left.
