Doraville Says 'No' To New Falcons Stadium

DORAVILLE, Ga. —

The Atlanta Falcons won't be moving to Doraville.

The Doraville City Council has, in an unanimous vote, turned down a plan by a DeKalb County developer to build a new stadium for the NFL team on the site of the old GM plant.

Since the plant shut down in 2007 the county has been trying to find a new use for the 165 acre site.

DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis said the county is not pushing any particular plan, including the stadium proposal. He just wants the property back on the county tax rolls and wants to use it to put people back to work.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank has said he wants a new stadium once the bonds for the Georgia Dome are paid off by 2020.
