Minute-by-minute: Day 18 of the Ross Harris hot car death trial

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — It’s been more than two years since 22-month-old Cooper Harris died in the back seat of a hot SUV outside a Cobb County office building.

His father, Ross Harris, is now on trial for his death.

3:47 p.m. Defense asks to recess for the day. Judge agrees. Court will resume at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

3:36 p.m. Debra Taylor said Cooper fell asleep easily in his car seat.

3:29 p.m. Defense calls Leanna Taylor's mother, Debra Taylor, to the stand.

2:57 p.m. Court recesses for afternoon break.

2:52 p.m. Amy Baygents said she didn't know Harris was unhappy with his job.

2:41 p.m. Amy Baygents said she knew of intimacy problems between Leanna and Ross, but said there were no problems between Ross and Cooper.

2:39 p.m. Amy Baygents said Harris was very inquisitive, always looking things up. She said he never met a stranger.

2:36 p.m. "Ross was a very loving dad. He loved Cooper, bragged on Cooper," Amy Baygents said.

2:35 p.m. Defense calls Harris' sister-in-law, Amy Baygents, to the stand.

2:29 p.m. When asked about a different side of Harris, Baygents said, "I would agree that he made a lot of mistakes." He said what he learned about his brother has been "shocking."

2:26 p.m. Baygents said after talking about the cruise he got passports for his kids. He was not aware that Harris never got Cooper a passport.

2:25 p.m. Baygents said he has been in law enforcement for 20 years.

2:24 p.m. Baygents said he loves his brother but would not lie for him. "I'm very ashamed of the things that he has done."

2:15 p.m. Baygents said Harris used legal jargon and cop talk all the time. Referred to break room at the office as 10-7.

2:13 p.m. Baygents jokes that it was "annoying" how Harris would talk to anybody and everybody growing up.

2:10 p.m. Harris breaks down during his brother's testimony.

2:09 p.m. "I think he loved Cooper more than life itself. I'll never believe anything other than he loved his son more than anything," Baygents said about Harris' relationship with Cooper.

2:07 p.m. Defense calls Harris' brother Michael Baygents to the stand.

2:02 p.m. Bond says they offered her $1,000 to do the interview, but she didn't take it. She says she didn't want the money, she just wanted to tell the truth.

2:00 p.m. Bond says the GMA interview was set up by Leanna's attorney.

1:55 p.m. Prosecutors ask Bond about an interview she gave to Good Morning America a few months after Cooper's death. In the interview, she said Leanna and Ross had a rocky marriage.

1:44 p.m. Bond says Leanna fell apart after leaving the courtroom last night.

1:41 p.m. Bond says the day of Cooper's death, she received a text from Leanna that said, "Please pray something bad has happened and nobody will tell me what." Bond says when she called Leanna back, Leanna told her, "Cooper's gone." Bond says she went to Marietta to be with Leanna. "Most of the time she was in a daze, but when we were at home, just family, she was an absolute wreck," she said.

1:29 p.m. Etienne said Harris wasn't acting overwhelmed or stressed the day of Cooper's death.

1:27 p.m. Etienne says Harris used a lot of "cop talk," but says it wasn't weird because he knew his background.

1:26 p.m. Etienne says Harris was acting completely normal the day of Cooper's death. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

1:20 p.m. Etienne says Harris used to talk about Cooper and show him pictures all the time.

1:15 p.m. Court resumes. Defense calls Harris' co-worker, Jelani Etienne, to the stand.

11:51 a.m. Brown says Harris' work fell off a lot in June 2014.

11:50 a.m. Brown says he only dealt with Harris at work. Did not know him personally outside of work.

11:43 a.m. Prosecutors say Brown told detectives days after Cooper's death that he would not describe Harris as forgetful.

11:38 a.m. Brown says Harris had brought Cooper to the office at least one time. Brown says Harris would talk and brag about Cooper.

11:30 a.m. Brown says he assigned Harris a project in June 2014 but it wasn't getting done. He said Harris was spending a lot of time on his phone at work. Brown emailed him about it the day of Cooper's death.

11:20 a.m. Brown describes Harris as friendly and chatty. Also says Harris was forgetful.

11:15 a.m. Brown says clearing your search history is common for a web developer.

11:07 a.m. Defense calls Aundrae Brown to the stand. Brown worked with Harris for several years.

11:04 a.m. Abdo says Harris' actions and sexting would be very different than the man that he knew.

11:03 a.m. Abdo says he would have no idea that Harris had a "darker, sinister side."

10:59 a.m. Abdo says he once asked Harris what it was like having kids. Harris responded, "As much as you love music, you'll love your kid 100x more."

10:56 a.m. Abdo says they decided not to continue with their company after Harris' arrest.

10:48 p.m. Abdo says even after he left Home Depot, he kept in touch with Harris. He says they were planning a business together.

10:46 a.m. Defense calls Jason Abdo to the stand. Abdo worked with Harris at Home Depot for about two and a half years.

10:44 a.m. Nesbit says, "They seemed like the perfect family." She says she never knew about Harris' other side.

10:43 a.m. Nesbit says when she talked to Leanna the day Cooper died, Leanna was not crying.

10:37 a.m. Nesbit talks about a time she saw Ross and Cooper in the parking lot when Ross was taking the toddler to the Braves game. She says it wasn't long before Cooper's death.

10:36 a.m. Nesbit says she was friends with Leanna and Ross and would babysit Cooper from time to time.

10:32 a.m. Defense calls Joey Nesbit to the stand. Nesbit was the Harris' neighbor in Cobb County.

10:31 a.m. Leanna says she now lives with her new boyfriend. When asked about her husband, she says, "He ruined my life. He destroyed my life. I'm humiliated. I may never trust anybody again ... If I never see him again after this day, that's fine."

10:30 a.m. Leanna says she didn't talk to the police again after the day of Cooper's death because she "didn't find them very trustworthy."

10:29 a.m.  Prosecutors ask Leanna again about Harris' double life. They argue he was two different people. "I would agree that that was a part of his personality that he did not share with me," Leanna says.

10:27 a.m. "I was angry. I was mad. I was disappointed. All of the things I've felt throughout this trial," Leanna says about a time she caught Harris watching pornography.

10:14 a.m. Leanna says the program, Covenant Eyes, that checked the websites Harris was visiting for pornography, was installed on his personal computer, but not his work computer. Prosecutor says Harris' accountability partner backed out in fall 2013, saying he couldn't do it any longer. Leanna said she didn't know that until after Cooper's death.

10:13 a.m. Harris looks down and cries as prosecutors tell Leanna about the text messages he was sending.

10:10 a.m. Court resumes. Prosecutor asks Leanna about the sexual text messages Harris was sending and receiving. "He destroyed my life. I didn't know about these things."

9:45 a.m. Leanna appears overwhelmed. Prosecutor asks if they can take a break. Leanna begins to cry as jurors leave the room.

9:35 a.m. Leanna says she didn't know that Cooper was too tall for the regulations of the car seat he was in the day he died.

9:33 a.m. Leanna says she didn't know that Harris watched the video about hot cars days before Cooper's death.

9:21 a.m. Boring asks Leanna about the cruise they were planning.

9:15 a.m. Boring talks with Leanna about their financial situation. Leanna says they were not financially ready to purchase a home.

9:01 a.m. Boring continues to question Leanna about her actions and statements after Cooper's death.

8:56 a.m. Boring says lead detective Phil Stoddard did tell Leanna where Cooper's body was and how to get in touch with the Medical Examiner's office.

8:52 a.m. Assistant District Attorney Chuck Boring says Leanna's first question after learning about the death of her son was about her husband.

8:49 a.m. Leanna says after re-watching her interactions at the police station she agrees that she was acting "odd." She says the whole thing was an out-of-body experience.
