Dead flies part of failed health inspection at busy Steak ‘n Shake

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The restaurant has been reinspected and now has a score of 99.

A busy DeKalb County Steak ‘n Shake failed a health inspection in part because of flies.

According to the report, an inspector found other violations, too, at the restaurant on North Druid Hills Road.

One violation involved food being stored under a leaky pipe in the walk in freezer.

The Steak ‘n Shake at the Toco Hill Shopping Center, known for its shakes and burgers, is open 24 hours a day.

Customer Jimmy Oliver tells Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge that he’s surprised to learn the restaurant got a score of 69 on May 9.

Oliver says it’s a shame because he says they have really good workers there.

Other violations included two dead flies nestled in the ice in the ice machine, live flies throughout the kitchen and some food not held cold enough.

Oliver says he was glad we brought the violations to his attention.

Sbarge asked the manager what they are doing to correct the violations.

He says he’s not able to speak to us.

Sbarge contacted the corporate office and is waiting for a response.

Sbarge reported in the past on this Steak 'n Shake failing a health inspection.

She checked the last two inspection reports and both times the restaurant got Bs. They had a score of 87 and an 80.

The DeKalb County Steak ‘n Shake will be re-inspected this month.

Oliver says if they get a good score, he’ll absolutely be returning.
