Recently retired grandmother hits $255K jackpot in Albany

ATLANTA — A recently retired grandmother has grabbed a Georgia Lottery jackpot prize playing Fantasy 5. Margaret Rayburn of Albany was one of two winners to match all five numbers from the March 23 Fantasy 5 drawing, winning a $255,187 jackpot prize.

Rayburn, 62, claimed her prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton.

“I found out when I checked my ticket,” the grandmother of three said. “I thought the clerk was joking with me at first.”

In addition to her three grandchildren, the lucky winner has four adult children and retired last June after working 23 years.

“I want to work on my house and buy a new car,” Rayburn said.

Winning numbers from the March 23 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 1-10-11-15-23.

Devis Convenience Store, 1400 Palmyra Road in Albany, sold the winning combination. The second jackpot winning ticket was sold in Warner Robins.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
