Tornado watch issued for parts of central Ga.

ATLANTA, Ga. — A tornado watch has been issued for several counties until 4 p.m.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the watch is for Jasper, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Putnam, and Upson counties. The watch was canceled for Spalding and Butts counties.

Heavy rain caused several traffic incidents and downed power lines Monday morning.

A crash in Norcross left 1,700 people without power. Georgia Power said a man hit a power pole near Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Williams Road around 9 a.m. Power is expected to be restored by 10:30 a.m.

A flood watch is also in effect until Monday night. Two to 4 inches of rain is expected in the flood watch area, which extends from the Interstate 20 corridor, northward. The slight risk for severe weather has expanded north into Atlanta and northern metro counties.
A flood warning was issued for Nancy Creek, near Buckhead, affecting DeKalb and Fulton counties. The warning lasts until Monday afternoon.
Temperatures will reach the upper 60s Monday, with rain fading by late afternoon. Minton says to expect more rain on Tuesday, followed by a string of sunny days.
